Karim Rashid unveils concept “Smart-ologic Corian living” at Milan Design Week

Last week’s, Milan Design Week saw the unveiling of a unique interior design project made by famed designer Karim Rashid in collaboration with DuPont Corian. The project, dubbed, “Smart-ologic Corian living” is a sustainable housing concept that makes the most of the versatility and sensory quality of the DuPont Corian materials. All areas of the home, from the kitchen to the living room to the bedroom including the garden as well have been made with environmentally sustainable bio-sourced components and recycled materials, displaying the company’s efforts to decrease its environmental footprint. Furthermore, the project also marks the debut of the DuPont Zodiaq quartz surfaces which Karim has used in designing some of the furniture in this house. To reduce the carbon footprint even more, the house also features DuPont Energain panels to reduce energy consumption along with DuPont building integrated photovoltaic modules and Tyvek woven membranes.

Sony Fusion fuses coffee table into workstation

Nothing brings a living room together quite like a coffee table, but as the modern designs look into multi functionality of furniture, we are but perplexed at the site of so many choices. However, this concept table dubbed Sony Fusion is a standout and makes life easier as it exemplifies taste with practicality. Derived from fusing technology and furniture, the Sony Fusion is a desktop infused with a coffee table to serve both function of being a sleek, multipurpose table and a high performance desktop. Crafted in matte black aluminum with a sleek chrome lining and supported by arched chrome legs, the Sony Fusion just takes a push of the button to convert the table into a work station with sleek touch sensitive keyboard and adjustable screen. The table top effortlessly splits in half and soundlessly slides apart to reveal the LED outlined keyboard, screen and DVD drive on the side of the table. Priced at $3000, the Sony Fusion will be available in three different colors – blue, white and red — when it goes into production.

La Patisserie de Reves - Paris

Whatever Parisian pastry chef extraordinaire, Philippe Conticini, does gets noticed. His talent for creating desserts that are art in all meanings of the word has found yet another expression this September when he unveiled his latest creation, La Pâtisserie de Rêves (the patisserie of dreams), in the chic 7th arrondissement in Paris. Nothing in the design of the sleek 29 square-meter boutique is reminiscent of a traditional European konditorei. Most strikingly, the stars of the space — the desserts, cakes and pastries — are displayed on a round platform in the center. Each of the 15 culinary masterpieces is presented under its own temperature-controlled glass bell suspended from the ceiling. Customers order their selection from the staff, after which each order appears directly from the kitchen. Both ideas evoke the feel of a meticulous laboratory where precious specimens are handled. Conticini has been in the culinary limelight for more than two decades with his own TV show, several books, restaurants and awards.
